P.2. Shigeru Ban Architects Internship
June 1st - August 30th, 2019
Tokyo, Japan
During my 3 months interning at Shigeru Ban Architects in Tokyo, Japan, I had the opportunity to work on the Paper Tube Pavilion at Keio University, Awaji Zen Meditation Hotel and Restaurant. My work included schematic design, landscape planning, design development, digital modeling, CAD drafting and physical model making at various scales. I also participated in bi-weekly meeting and preparation of competition material. Furthermore, I was chosen to work with the Voluntary Architects’ Network within the office in preparing, diagramming and animating paper tube earthquake shelters. The exploration of new materials and sustainability strengthened my understanding of architecture in juxtaposition with notions of temporality, both physically and experientially.
